RIVERFLY TRAINING

30 August 2007,
Marlborough College, Wiltshire.

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for ARK members to learn how to become a 'fly-life monitor'. Together with the Riverfly Partnership, the Natural History Museum, the Environment Agency and Marlborough College we are running a one-day workshop to teach people how to monitor the fly life of the river.

The course will be delivered by an accredited tutor, together with an EA Ecological Appraisal Officer. The workshop will provide a comprehensive review of the monitoring technique and will include short presentations, practical demonstrations and active involvement by participants at the riverside. Participants will receive a guide to the monitoring methodology and have chance to try it out for themselves.

There is a ratio of one tutor to six participants. The course will be subsidised by ARK and other funders, so we are asking for a contribution of £35 per person and a commitment to complete one sample per year. This information will supplement the work by the EA thereby providing a much closer check on the health of our water habitats.

This is a very exciting opportunity to do something really practical to help the ecology of the river. To register your interest please contact Stuart Gould on 01372 722624 or email info@riverkennet.org.
