ARK's Rubble Removal Project for Marlborough

Vandalism and littering are not unique to modern life. You have only to look into the water flowing in the River Kennet through Marlborough. For hundreds of years, rivers flowing through towns have been used to dispose of rubbish.

Wherever there is public access to the river you will find modern day litter. Anything from food packaging, bikes and bottles to bricks, plastic pipes and building packaging including plastic straps, bags and polythene sheets, seems to end up in the river.

However, look again more carefully - the bed of the river should be gravel. It is frequently littered with very old bricks, building materials and rubble, which have accumulated over many years.

The fact that rubbish attracts rubbish is indisputable.

ARK has several sites in Marlborough earmarked for rubble and rubbish clearance. Work will begin as soon as the river is low enough next Spring (and the sun has warmed the water a little!).

If you enjoy messing about in the river, come and join ARK's 'Rubble Removal Project'.

To register your interest and receive details of the next rubble clearance event, please contact ARK.
