River group urges everyone to help keep river flowing
 
Action for the River Kennet is urging everyone in the Kennet Valley be water smart as another hot weekend approaches.  Local meteorologist Eric Gilbert recorded just 5.3mm of rain in Marlborough in June 2018, which is just 1/10th of normal June rainfall. At the same time Thames Water experienced their highest water demand day ever last Sunday. Full press release here.

New small grants availalbe to improve fisheries and habitats in the Kennet and its tributaries from Newbury downstream. Download grant details here and application form here. For examples of projects which would be suitable take a look here. Anyone can apply, you might be a fishing club, landowner, parish council or residents association. Our project officer will help you every step of the way.

Rain gardens: good for rivers, good for wildlife and good for gardeners.

ARK presented the first of several events to promote rain gardens yesterday (10 May 2017). Marlborough Gardening Association hosted award winning garden designer Wendy Allen and ARK director Charlotte Hitchmough to find out how and why to build rain gardens at home. More information here.

 A new pipeline to supply water to south Swindon from Farmoor Reservoir will open at the end of this month.  Thames Water’s Axford pipeline project will protect the fragile River Kennet and River Og, by providing an alternative water supply for Swindon when river levels are low.
