Volunteering: Gravel cleaning on the River Kennet at Burghfield, near Reading
Date: 23 Sep 2019
Location: Lower Benyons, Burghfield, Reading
Organiser: ARK with RDAA
Description:
An opportunity to spend a day cleaning the gravel on the river bed using specialised macinery, working alongside a fishery manager. Equipment and waders provided. Numbers strictly limited.

The reason we clean gravel is to wash out accumulated fine sediments, leaving space between the gravel so that fish can use it to lay eggs in. Without gravel cleaing the fish are either prevented from finding suitable spawning sites, or the eggs are laid but suffocate. By helping with this task you'll be boosting the fish populations on the Kennet.
